You are here: In the formula editor for product filters or custom data fields.
The formula editor allows you to create complex data manipulations and filter rules. This way you can respond to all market needs by creating customized data sets and product feeds.
The formula editor is divided into three main areas:
Parameter
Formula
Preview
1. Parameter
With the parameter input (1) you define the data that will be used in the formula. You can define as many parameters as you like to use in the formula.
Click on "Select data field" to define a data field as source for the parameter.
Two fields appear to define the name and data type for the parameter.
Name: The name is used to call up and use the parameter and its data in the formula via this name.
Data type: Via the data type you determine whether the data of the parameter is treated as text or number.
You can also remove parameters:
Click on the data field you want to remove.
Select "Cancel assignment" in the drop down selection that opens.
2. Formula
In the formula area (2) you can create your custom data field or a product filter with operators and the parameters while adhering to a certain syntax.
Via "Show all functions" you can display the available functions including syntax and examples directly in the formula editor:
Even during the input of formulas, suitable functions are dynamically suggested:
You can find a complete summary of this in our help section Formulas: Syntax, Operators and Functions.
Custom data field
With a custom data field, you can generate a new value using the values from parameters and operators and store it in the new data field.
Examples of possible formulas
Gross margin, if it is e.g. 10% of your net product price:
Add the manufacturer to the product name:
Product name and manufacturer must be predefined as parameters.
(product name + "(" + manufacturer + ")")
Filter
When you create a filter, you must use the formula to formulate conditions that your products can satisfy. The result of a filter is TRUE if the product meets the conditions, or FALSE if it does not meet the conditions. This is done mainly by comparative and inclusion/exclusion operators. The result is a list of products that satisfy the conditions.
Below the formula area is the Whitelist / Blacklist slider which you can use to determine how this list is handled by the filter:
Whitelist: Products that meet the conditions of the filter will be included/"let through".
Blacklist: Products that meet the conditions of the filter are excluded.
Example of possible filters
Outputs all products that have a price over 100€
Outputs all products that have either a price above 100€, or a stock above 10 pieces.
Parameters: stock, price
(stock > 10) OR (price >100)
3. Test formula
After you have entered a formula, you can test it.
Click on "Test" right below the formula field.
The formula will be applied to a random product from your product catalog. In the preview area (3) the corresponding result is displayed.
Result for data field:
Next to the parameter area (1) the output data is displayed
Next to the formula area (2) the result of the calculation is displayed
Errors are displayed in red font
Result for filter:
Next to the parameter area (1) the output data is displayed.
Next to the formula area (2) is displayed whether the item is included or excluded (as begotten in the example)
Errors are displayed in red font
Click on "Save settings".
